Theatrical Performance: Alexander the Great. From Yesterday to Today

The Association of Greek Letters and Arts for Welfare and Excellence, in the context of its activities aimed at promoting human self-improvement and self-knowledge according to the standards of ancient Greeks, “Know Thyself,” is organizing a Theatrical Performance at the Cultural Conference Center of Heraklion on Sunday, October 19, 2025, entitled:

“Alexander the Great
From Yesterday to Today”

The Theatrical performance is honored to be organized with the Support of the Region of Crete.

A journey through time, seeking the values, the Greek virtues to build bridges with ourselves and others. On the journey, the childhood’s innocence at the Palace, the adolescent education at Mieza, the glory of the expedition, the splendor of the Hellenistic era, today’s reality, and the prospect of the next day, come to life with the music, the impressive costumes, and the digital scenery. A proposal that serves as a timeless model of life and human character for today’s reality, where the issues raised seek solutions.

The issues that arise in our time, military conflicts, socio-economic and cultural crisis, multifaceted threats, etc., are the results of the disruption of objective measures of life’s values. We observe speechless the psychological, social and cultural impasses that concern us and all of humanity.

Philosophy, from its infancy, has sought to find eudaemonia, for human, as a state of piety, mental and spiritual state, which makes him capable of effectively coping with all the challenges of his daily life and, on the other hand, constantly discovering the optimal versions of himself.

Alexander the Great embraced Greek education, which is mainly founded on two basic philosophical principles: I think-reflect, I transform my established beliefs and I approach from the subjective point of view to the objectively correct. And I put the result of my reasoning into practice in my daily life. My experience is filled with rational judgment.

These are the Intellectual and Moral Virtues according to Aristotle. Critical thinking, emotional intelligence, solidarity, justice, friendship, love, knowledge, etc. are based on these virtues and concern all of us, whose minds are increasingly “twinged” and our hearts are “tightened”.

The Performance attempts to illuminate the path of a timeless leader, who left his mark on history with his vision and his actions. It is a proposal that functions as a timeless model of life and human character for everyone, but especially for children and adolescents.

An attempt to seek values on a collective level, as a counterweight to the mental deterioration that results from the complexity of the modern era.
